PN Uganda Initiative

Dear Positive Notes community members,

Greetings from Positive Notes of YOBC! We hope that you have enjoyed the start of 2020 and that the year has been filled with music for you so far.

We are excited to tell you about a wonderful opportunity to share the gift and joy of music with children in Uganda. We were contacted recently by a nonprofit organization called Sylvia’s Children that supports a school for children in Uganda, a country where more than half the population is in poverty. Many of these children are orphans who have lost their parents to the AIDS epidemic. The school would like to start a band for 28 students, but it needs brass and percussion instruments.

Since our goal at Positive Notes is to provide instruments and lessons for children in need, we will be assisting Sylvia’s Children in their quest for instruments. But we need your help! If you have old brass instruments like trumpets, trombones, french horns, cornets or tubas (etc.), please bring them to Bucks County Community College Music and Multimedia Center during a Youth Orchestra of Bucks County rehearsal. Rehearsals take place on Sundays, usually from the late morning to afternoon. You may also bring them to the home of the Positive Notes Director (Charlotte Avril): 242 Mather Rd, Jenkintown, PA 19046. It is safe to leave instruments on her front porch any day.

Other woodwind and string instruments donated will help our own communities here in Pennsylvania.

We are looking to end our collection around the end of March and the instruments will be shipped to Uganda by June. Any and all donations are appreciated!
